For our first collection, we wanted to showcase our commitment to sustainability right at the forefront of our designs. We hoped to introduce a new way of consuming fashion and highlighting how good eco-friendly fabrics can truly feel. They say the devil is in the details and Reistor is no different. Though most people only think about one thing when they hear the word hemp, for us, hemp signifies the infinite possibilities. The ability to create garments that look and feel great while actually supporting the environment we live in.

Water Consumption

This was one of the first things we learnt about hemp, and what steered us even more quickly in the direction of this fabric. Hemp uses only a fraction of the water that cotton and even organic cotton require in order to grow. To grow 1kg of fabric, cotton requires 3000L of water, organic cotton needs 450L while hemp only uses 270L!

Material Benefits

Did you know that hemp is one of the most durable and long-lasting fabrics out there? Apart from getting softer and more comfortable with every wash, hemp is also antibacterial and resistant to mold, water and UV rays. It’s completely skin safe and will never cause you to get a rash or break out. This means that each time you wear a hemp garment, you are also protecting your body.

Since hemp is inherently antimicrobial, there is no requirement for harmful pesticides, insecticides, herbicides or genetically modified seeds. Apart from this, hemp is a clean crop in that it cleans the soil and groundwater that it grows in of toxins. It’s a natural CO2 sink, so for every ton of hemp cultivated, it absorbs 1.63 tons of CO2 from our atmosphere! You’re probably wondering what hemp can’t do at this point.

Breathable and Lightweight

One of our favourite things about hemp is how good it feels when worn. Unlike other natural fibers that can be scratchy and stiff, hemp is soft, lightweight and very flowy. We’ve designed garments that can be worn while you work (either at home or from the office), meet up with friends, travel and even laze on the beach. No matter what your plans, hemp is your best bet.

We’re incredibly excited to share this first collection and would love to hear your feedback on the garments. Drop us a comment below or write to us at for any questions or thoughts on hemp clothing.
